Mine was I believe, the first one he ever made serial #00001 and was made just before he went into proper production with the launch of the Zander brand. Zander Circuitry now makes an ever growing range of pedals well worth checking out, and all very reasonably priced. The Silicone Fuzz Chaos being at something like £85, which is great especially considering you are actually getting handmade boutique gear. This fuzz pedal does live upto it's name of being a chaos initiator, so be warned... you never know what sound it's going to throw at you... so for experimental tracks and copious noisy chaos ala Fuzz factory style but without the hefty price tag, so this will make your ears bleed rather than your wallet.
For a more predictable Fuzz tone, one of my favourite pedals is the Biyang Fuzz star FZ10 which I picked up on ebay new costing around £35-00. I had never even heard of this make before and as always, I watched the youtubes on a variety of Fuzz pedals and this seemed to fit the bill nicely as well as my budget for a dependable Fuzz.
Ok first thing you notice is this baby has volume!!!! Even on the lowest volume setting it is a powerful beast. The Fuzz Star also has 3 different Fuzz settings on the toggle switch: Normal, bright & warm... bright sounding slightly louder than the other two. I really like the sound of this pedal, whilst it can be described as a modern sound it is also warm and retro.
A confession, it's a standard 9vt battery or a std 9vt negative centre adapter but for some reason I plugged in the wrong adapter, in fact an AC rather than a DC and there was a fizz and a burnt fish smell as I very quickly realised I'd inadvertently blown it... but to it's well manufactured credit it still works perfectly even though I know that one part definitely blew, which in fact saved the unit... but as I say that was entirely my own stupid fault but it still works absolutely perfectly.
Aesthetically, the paintwork I think is in my opinion quite nice and retro and satisfyingly pleasing, it's not just a bland coloured box and the knobs have a chunky retro feel and look about them, in slightly off white shade. I think all in all it's a no brainer if you dig the sound because these are very solid pedals with that boutique painted look and at a very very reasonable price.
Here's a youtube (not my own) that demo's the pedal... Happy Daze :)
